Romans 8:26  “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

When we feel our prayers are not heard or we don’t get the answer we want, we must stop and take time to recognize what God has given us.  Yesterday someone whom I met for the first time, greeted me warmly and handed me this prayer.   It was a reminder to me that when we bring our requests to God, we must trust that he will do what is best for us.

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,

I was made weak to humbly obey.

I asked for health, that I might do greater things,

I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy,

I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need for God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,

I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for – but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am among all men most richly blessed.
